ABIA 2024: NEC APPROVES MASCOT FOR CONVENTION

Ahead of the 2024 Imo State University Alumni Association National Convention, the National Executive Council has approved the official mascot for the event.

In a letter dated, 18th April, 2024, and signed by the Secretary of the National Convention Planning Committee, Mr. Chinedu Nnadi, the NCPC recommended that the Convention mascot be an image of an elephant due to its socio-cultural appeal and significance to the Abia people and the Chapter.

Six days later, precisely on the 24th of April, 2024, the NEC unanimously approved the committee’s resolutions for the Convention. The statement which was signed by the NEC Chairman, Nze Chimaraoke Nwosu and made available to the NCPC noted that the approval includes all the recommendations of the NCPC.

According to credible sources, the elephant played a key role in clearing a path and settlement of the Ngwa people. In fact, it was said that at some point, they people could not expand because they could not clear the forest path. But the sudden appearance of the elephant helped them as the elephant kept moving and clearing the path for them. It is common knowledge that Aba is tagged Enyimba city and the football club home to Aba people is also known and called Enyimba FC.

Public affairs analysts and watchers have not ceased to commend the move of the NCPC and the NEC to come up with an elephant mascot for the Convention. They are of the view that this is not only very thoughtful but also strategic as it would put the Convention into proper perspective as being hosted by the Abia state.
