All set for UN Women Grassroots Conference.



Build up to the 59th session of Commission on Status on Women, the Women & Family Affairs Committee, (WFAC) of the World Igbo Congress Inc.  Texas USA, has said it has concluded arrangements to hold its Pre-Union Nations Comission on Status of Women Grassroots Conference at Umuahia, the Abia state capital.

According to organizers of the programme, the theme of the event, “Evaluating Beijing Platform for Action on Igbo Women and Girls”, will review progress made in the twelve critical areas of concern of the Beijin Declaration and Platform for Action on Igbo Women and Girls and address key issues in terms of opportunities and challenges in implementing the platform for action as well as best practices to strengthen the empowerment of Igbo women and girls.

A statement jointly signed by WIC UN Rep and Program Director, WFAC, Dr. Ada Okika, National Coordinator, WFAC, Princess Bernadette Ogbulafor, Chairman WFAC, Chi Ezekwueche, Iyom Odiukonamba and Coordinator of Resource Persons, Dr. Paul Mbakwe, the event will take place on January 28, 2015 at Isi-Court, Old Aba road, Umuahia.

Highlights of the event will include the flag-off the global campaign on “One Million Igbo Women Support Group” in support of the global mission of Union Women for Igbo Women.
The forum is expected to have representatives of women, girls, policy makers, media executives, government officials from women parastals and agencies from the seven Igbo speaking states and other parts of the nation in attendance.

According to the statement, “The Women and Family Affairs of World Igbo Congress with Consultative Status at the United Nations is a committee of the World Igbo Congress with the responsibility of educating, empowering and advocating for Igbo Igbo women and girls on mission of UN Women and global issues on w omen”.


It is expected that the outcome of the session will form part of the discussions at the Unite Nations, New York 59th Session of Commission on the Status of Women.
